South Shore Terminal Operations During 2010 Games

18 December, 2009 by admin

Port Metro Vancouver is working to address your questions and concerns relating to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. We are committed to minimizing any potential disruptions to business during the Games to ensure the seamless, reliable and secure transit of passengers and goods through our Gateway.
We have been working with our terminal partners to address concerns regarding potential impacts of Games-related activities on South Shore container terminal operations. The following is a summary to address specific questions about night gates, staging and traffic considerations.
• Hours of operation: South Shore terminal gates will be open from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM during the Olympic Winter Games (February 12 – 28, 2010).
• Night gates: South Shore terminals will consider night gate activity if business warrants. At this point, additional gate hours are being considered only for large customers whose infrastructure supports these operations. Large importers are encouraged to collaborate with each other to ensure sufficient volume is available to make a night gate operation viable. Large exporters will be considered as well, provided their business falls within terminal guidelines. Please contact terminals directly for details.
• Staging: Centerm and Vanterm terminals have contingency plans in place to mitigate container truck traffic impacts resulting from Games-related activities. Additional staging will be provided if required.
• Cargo: Freight movements will continue as normal, 24/7, with the exception of Dangerous Goods in the Downtown Vancouver core only.
• Access: To better coordinate access on the South Shore, we have implemented a radio communication program with our terminal partners. The security team facilitating access to the accommodation vessels berthed at Ballantyne Pier will also participate.

To ensure we are meeting your needs, contact us with any questions or concerns, by email 2010info@portmetrovancouver.com or phone 1.888.767.8826.
